Tips for Healthy, Beautiful Summer Skin from The Landings

Summer is fast approaching, as is the skin-baring wardrobe that accompanies it. To get you feeling sundress or short and t-shirt ready, Tricia Dauphinee-Bishop, Clinical Skincare Therapist at The Landings, shares her favourite tips for beautiful and healthy skin for this summer and year-round:

Sunscreen

Everyone should make sunscreen a daily part of their skincare routine, regardless of skin type and tone. One of the most important parts of using sunscreen is finding one that you like and that works for your skin type and lifestyle; after all, you won’t use it if you don’t like it!

A popular option offered by The Landings is a dry sunscreen by Colorescience. It’s a lightweight, mineral powder that provides a safe, non-irritating, instant UVA and UVB sun protection. In addition to being water resistant, the self-dispensing powder brush makes the sheer formula easy to apply and reapply throughout the day – plus it makes your skin look great!

By making sunscreen application a regular part of your routine, you‘ll avoid sun damage to your skin while enjoying your favourite outdoor activities, whether that’s a glass of wine on the Bicycle Thief Patio or a stroll along the boardwalk with a Sugah! ice cream.

Vitamin C

Another must for healthy, beautiful skin is topical vitamin C. This potent antioxidant protects against free radicals in the skin.

Regular use of a product, such as a serum with high-quality vitamin C content (Tricia’s favourite are the VivierSkin serums), can help protect the skin and prevent wrinkles, repair skin damage, even skin tone and improve skin texture.

Vitamin A

After a day in the sun, you’ll want to apply a product with vitamin A. Night is an ideal application time as your skin repairs itself overnight, and topical vitamin A promotes healthy cell creation.

Regular application of a high-quality vitamin A product, such as the Environ AVST (Advanced Vitamin Skin Therapy) line, can help promote collagen and elastin production and reduce or prevent fine lines, wrinkles and skin discolourations.

Healthy diet & hydration

Beautiful skin starts from the inside out, so a healthy diet complete with a variety of fruits and vegetables (vitamins A and C again!) and that includes plenty of water will ensure your body is getting what it needs to produce new healthy skin cells.

What to do you if you get a sunburn

Should you accidentally get too much sun, be sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. During nighttime, apply a gentle vitamin A product and during daytime apply a vitamin C product for protection and plenty of sunscreen. To avoid future burns, carry a portable-sized sunscreen with you (the powder sunscreen by Colorescience is the perfect size for this!).
